Backspace is the studio of Vancouver based artist Blake Williams. What began as purely a work space has evolved into a multi-use event space. . While the studio aesthetic remains, the space can be transformed into a venue capable of hosting public and private events. Past events held at Backspace have included concerts, pop-up coffee shops, art shows and parties. Backspace is an environment that is constantly being created and recreated. Backspace is unique, with it's alley entrance, it's working studio environment and it's loyal fan base. If you have ideas for what else Backspace could be, we'd love to talk to you. Blake Williams. A local artist working primarily in public art, graphic design and film-making. Blake was born and raised in Grandview-Woodlands and opened his first studio in the late 80's. Recently he has realized the opportunity that his studio could provide to the neighbourhood. A space that could promote the work of others and host interesting events for the local community. The daughter of Blake and the 5th generation to grow up in Vancouver's east side. While Backspace is Blake's studio, it is equally Zana's lab. A place where she puts up jump shots or skateboard on the mini ramp. She continues to use the space to screen print for her clothing company Kids In Van, build tables and throw events. Zana is an ex Utah State and UBC basketball player.

Respecting the space and the neighbourhood is the #1 rule at Backspace. In general the space is available until approx. 1 am but that and other issues are usually considered afresh with each event proposal.
